Jessica Johnson

Jessica’s Story -

I’m Jessica Johnson and I’m 36 years old. I have a wonderful husband, Brian and 3 children: Brayden 12, Carter 7 and Griffin 8 mos. I grew up in Hampton, IA and am still living here. Both of my parents live in Hampton and I have a brother living in Mason City. I attended LaJames College in 1999 and became a cosmetologist in 2001. I’ve been doing what I love ever since. I started my career in Mason City and when I started having children I decided to work closer to home. I love watching my children grow and doing all the things they love to do. I enjoy going to baseball games (kids), watching football and going to rock concerts. My family is the most important thing in my life!

It was in November 2016, just 3 months after I had my 3rd child that I found a lump in my breast. I went to my physician and that’s when my life fell apart. From doctor’s appointments to just the simple word “cancer”, I was a wreck for 2 weeks. Then I told myself: I’VE GOT THIS! I have my children, husband and my job. This isn’t going to stop me. I had to be positive, it wasn’t an option. I started chemo 2 weeks before Christmas. I lost all my hair about the 12th day into it. I have 16 total treatments and should be done April 27th, the day of my bedroom Reveal. I’ll then have a full mastectomy, and put on a preventative drug for a year. Except for some fatigue, I feel pretty good.

I am so thankful for the opportunity provided by My Happy Haven. Having somewhere to relax and recover from surgery will be great. Thank you, Corporate Farmer for making this possible!

Amy Craighton, Jessica’s friend -
Jessica is a selfless, caring, brave woman! I have known her since she was a young girl (I babysat she and her brother). Now she works for me. But she’s more than an employee. She is one of my dearest friends. Jessica and her family are a part of my family and I only want the best for her. She has been so brave and positive about her whole cancer battle. She has inspired everyone around her. I nominated her because I felt she deserved to have something wonderful done for her. She is always doing for everyone else at work and in her life. It took a little convincing to get her to accept this though. She will soon have surgery and I wanted her to have a Haven she could go to and spend time with her boys and husband. This way she can cuddle with her youngest (6 mos.) as she won’t be able to carry him around. I wanted her to have something great to look forward to during this time of the unknown. Thank you, My Happy Haven and Corporate Farmer for making this possible for Jessica.

Come show your support, help us celebrate Jessica’s final day of chemo and toast to her new room. Reveal scheduled for 6 pm.

Jessica & Brian were welcomed home last evening with an outpouring of love from family and friends who came to support Jessica and celebrate not only her last day of chemo, but share in the moment when she saw her newly decorated bedroom for the first time. My Happy Haven was honored to be able to offer this gift to Jessica and we wish her only health and happiness in the days ahead.

Chad & Heidi Hanson, and Dennis VanGorkum of Corporate Farmer made Jessica & Brian’s bedroom makeover possible with their generous financial contribution. They have supported us from the beginning and continue to do so today. We are eternally grateful to them!
