Kathy Baxter

My Happy Haven traveled to Plymouth to give Kathy Baxter a bedroom makeover. Buddies for Boobies is making the makeover possible, not only because of their financial donation, but several members are planning on helping with the painting. Kathy is currently undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer and will soon be having a major surgery. Alyssa, Kathy's granddaughter, thought since her grandmother was always helping others, it was time something nice happened to her. MHH is thrilled that the makeover will be done just before her scheduled surgery, so that when she returns home, she has a beautiful new room in which to relax and recuperate in. Kathy's Reveal is scheduled for Fri. Aug. 24th @ 5:30 pm.

Kathy's Story: I was born in Bay City, MI, along with my twin sister. We were adopted before a year of age and gained 2 brothers as well. I am married to Robert Baxter and have a son, Keith, and a daughter, Michele, from a previous marriage. I have two adult grand-daughters, Alyssa-25 and Kaitlin-23. I also have a younger grand-daughter, Harper, who will be 4 in just a few months. I'm a great-grandmother to 2 boys: Riley-6 and Dominic-1.

My family is everything to me. I have helped raise my 2 older granddaughters and have helped with Riley, Harper and Dominic. I worked doing industrial jobs until I entered the healthcare field until presently, when I can no longer work due to my health.

A few months ago I thought I had a bladder infection. I went to the doctor thinking that I was going to be getting an antibiotic, only to be told I had ovarian cancer. Since my diagnosis, I have had three 8-hour rounds of chemotherapy and am planning to have surgery very soon. After surgery I will have five more rounds of chemotherapy.

I feel so very blessed to have the family that I do. They go out of their way to help me. My son, Keith and his wife, Holly, gave me my own bedroom at their house so that I can stay with them after chemotherapy. The bedroom has twin beds so that somebody can stay with me. My daughter, Michele, has stayed with me and has taken me to Des Moines for chemo as well as making sure that I get to all of my doctor appointments and to the store when I am not well enough to drive. My twin sister has flown in from Michigan to be with me and will be returning to stay with me after surgery as well. My granddaughter, Kaitlin, makes sure to call and check on me regularly and has sat with me in the hospital when the chemo made me so terribly sick. My granddaughter, Alyssa, also comes with me to my chemo appointments and has helped me with so many different things. It was Alyssa that nominated me for a bedroom makeover!

I want to thank My Happy Haven for all of their help. To have a lovely bedroom to return to after chemotherapy and surgery is going to be a huge blessing. I want everybody to know just how thankful I am for everything.
