Rose Hanson

We are blessed to have had the opportunity to develop a new friendship with such a gentle soul. Rose Hansen is the type of person who makes you smile a little bigger, laugh a little louder, and live a little better. It was such a joy to see someone so selfless, someone who would never ask for anything for them self, and someone with such gratitude receive her own HAVEN. Thank you Sue Hicks for nominating such a deserving woman.

Rose's Story
I have lived in or around Mason City all of my life. I have 3 children: Cory (25), Aubrey (23), and Libby (13). One grandson, Briggs (1), These kids mean the world to me and that is why on October 30th, i had the most difficult conversation of my life, i had to tell them I had cancer. I was so worried as to how they would deal with this news, more worried about them than me having breast cancer. I knew I would be ok, was not as sure about them,. All the appointments were made and gone to, seems like such a blur now. So much information to take in, luckily a friend was able to go to all of them with me and go over all that was said during the appointments since i would only be able to remember bits and pieces. I had a double mastectomy on December 4th, 2017. Stage 2, grade 3, invasive ductal carcinoma, that was me now and it was the day i would never be the same again, I had immediate reconstruction too. i witnessed so much love and caring from all those i knew, they all had specific tasks which they volunteered for without being asked and no hesitation. I was so amazed by all of these wonderful people, how they were doing all of these things for ME.... I am still so blessed to continue to be given the gifts of love, hope, encouragement and fellowship from those i am with daily, new people i encounter, i just never imagined that so many people would be in this with me! Treatments have been bearable, some days more than others but you just go with what you got that day. I have been told that i am inspiring, going to work everyday, living life.... I see it as part of my life journey, with a big river to cross,,, and it doesn't matter how i get across, just that I do!

Thank you so much to her bedroom sponsors the MCHS iJAG class and the John K. & Luise V. Hanson Foundation. Without your generous support, these bedroom makeovers would not be possible.
